Taking in the Holidays

It's been a busy Fall around here with a full slate of things to do at the State Parks, wineries and nearby towns.  The pace continues through the end of the year.....unless of course you choose to unplug and just enjoy the peace and quiet of the Hill Country from your porch.

From lighted town squares and trails, to local theater & music and a long list of local traditions, we can't cover them all, but we'll list some items below a few links to let you take a peak.  We'll share anything else we find out along the way on our Twitter and Facebook accounts as well.

Llano - Starry, Starry Nights at Badu Park.  Very relaxing and friendly setting along the Llano River to stroll through the lights.  On your way in or out, stop to enjoy some of the great restaurants and shops either across Hwy 71 in the old Rail Station or across the River in the town square. Check out the Llano Chamber of Commerce Events Calender to see what else is happening:

Marble Falls - Walkway of Lights offers a great setting along Lake Marble Falls.  Just a few blocks away are all the great places to shop, eat or just explore

Burnet -   Christmas Trail of Lights at Wallace Riddell Park is just off the the town square.  Experience the Main Street Bethlehem and a few other events if you get a chance as well.

Fredericksburg -  Where to begin......plan a day and have fun.

Johnson City - You want lights?  This is it.  The Country Courthouse alone is a fun setting, but head over to the Pedernales Electric Coop and see how it's really done.  Check out the great local shops, restaurants, art galleries and even LBJ's boyhood home while you are there.

Missing Summer?

If you miss your sandals and the warm sun, you are clearly in the wrong place.

We've been enjoying and look forward to some of the best weather of the year for getting out on the boat to ski, fish or just cruise.  It's also a great time to enjoy the Stars at Night, Deep in the Heart of Texas.  Toss in all the great golf, State Parks & wineries and "The End of Summer" is just a footnote on our calender.

With so much going we can't list everything.  We'll note a few of our favorites and include a few links to organizations so they can tell you more about themselves:

Fiesta Jam on Lake Marble Falls -  Somehow we missed this earlier, but we will be making plans for it now.  Check out the inaugural Fiesta Jam October 17-19 on Lake Marble Falls.

October is Texas Wine Month -  So many great wineries nearby to choose from including our neighbors at Fall Creek Estates and Perrisos.  Here are a couple groups that would be eager to help you find even more:  Texas Hill Country Wineries & Wine Road 290

Inks Lake State Park - Fishing with a ranger, guided hikes, family camping... plenty to do as always for kids and adults.

Longhorn Caverns State Park - Always cool and fun to explore the cavern, but there are some fun trails and history to explore as well. Plus a great view of The Estates on the River from the watch tower and Park Road 4.

Texas High School Football - Check out the schedules for Llano, Burnet and Marbles Falls High School football teams to get your dose of a great Texas Friday Night tradition.

Kingsland, TX - A couple of golf tournaments and a fishing event would be July anywhere else....their Octoberfest event is the only thing to remind you what time of year it is.

Check out some of these local Chamber of Commerce calenders for BBQ Cook-offs, concerts, Texas Wine Month events & more:

Some Fun and Unique Events This Weekend

Another great weekend of summer events around the area this weekend.  As always, way too much happening to get everything listed here, so here are a few of the unique and/or nearby things that we've enjoyed in the past or simply caught our eye.

Marble Falls Adult Soap Box Derby -  We stumbled upon this a few years ago and it has become one of our favorite events of the year.  Fun stuff all weekend.  Check it out if you can.

Burnet Pro Rodeo - Another great, local rodeo experience this weekend.  With a fun outdoor venue, it's a nice way to spend the evening.

Wild West Fest - This is a new one to us, but it looks like a fun way to support a local community library.  Nothing says "Wild West" better than BBQ, Music & BYOB.

Inks Lake State Park - There is something going on over there every weekend, but this Moonlight Paddle caught our eye.

LBJ Ranch - Check out Mary Poppins as part of the National Park Service "Movie Under the Stars" program at this historic landmark.  A little bit of a drive from here, but a unique experience.

Republic of Texas Biker Rally - And for another unique experience, you can "head in to town" for the ROT Rally.  Or, you can hang out here and listen to them rumble by as groups of riders take in what The Estates on the River homeowners get to enjoy anytime.

Llano 78th Pro Open Rodeo & Parade - One of the fun events we mark on our calender every year.  Rodeo events Friday and Saturday night.  A parade on the Square Saturday and a dance Saturday night.  The arena is great and fills up, so get there early and take it all in.

Dion Pride's Tribute to Charley Pride - This Saturday at the Llano Country Opry.  Fun night in Llano.

Inks Lake State Park - From a National Trails Day Hike, Kids Kayak Clinic, Night Sky Party, to a Sunset Jaunt on the Electric Boat and Survival Series demonstration focusing on starting a fire, there is plenty to do at one of the best State Parks in Texas.
